AEROSIL® Fumed Silica

Glass

Degussa AEROSIL® is an ideal starting point in the demanding manufacture of optical fiber and components, crucibles, and a host of other advanced material products where silica purity is of paramount importance. Unlike powdered natural quartz, AEROSIL® is an amorphous form of silica that has been recognized as generally safe for over 60 years. Degussa offers a broad portfolio of pyrogenic nano-silicas with very special properties tailor-made to our customer's needs. For example, AEROSIL® OX50, because of its broad particle size, higher tapped density, and ability to form high solids dispersions, is particularly suitable in the sol-gel process.

Degussa is the technical leader in the manufacture of metal oxides by flame hydrolysis. Under the trade name of AEROXIDE®, Degussa offers a variety of nano-sized metal oxides such as: Aluminum Oxide, Titanium Oxide, and Zirconium Oxide. Degussa has and continues to develop unique mixed metal- and doped metal-oxides. These complex nanoparticles impart novel function to silica glass, opto-electronic components, and ceramics.
