    • Are there any recommendations of AEROSIL® fumed silica for thickening LSE-resins?

      AEROSIL® 972 gives good thickening in some LSE formulations without affecting the LSE ( patented technology).
    • Can AEROSIL® fumed silica be dispersed in gel coats with a Cowles dissolver?

      Yes, a Cowles dissolver is suitable for dispersing AEROSIL® fumed silica in UP gelcoats.
    • Can I prevent settling in coatings with AEROSIL® fumed silica?

      Through the use of AEROSIL® fumed silica in coatings, the settling of pigments and fillers can be prevented or reduced. Standard amout used range between 0.4 - 0.8 % AEROSIL® 200 related to the total formulation. In special cases such as zinc dust paints, additions of up to 1.5% are possible or required.
    • Can I use AEROSIL® fumed silica in anti-corrosive coatings?

      In addition to its effect as a suspension aid in anti-corrosive paints, AEROSIL® fumed silica also brings an improvement in the corrosion resistance. 0.5 - 1.5 % of AEROSIL® R 972 and R 974 are recommended.
    • Can fumed synthetic amorphous silica cause silicosis?

      Because of its X-ray amorphous structure, AEROSIL® fumed silica inhalation does not cause silicosis.
    • Can the thickening behavior in UP resins be improved by additives?

      Some additives like bifunctional liquids ( e.g. ethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol ) may significantly enhance the thickening behaviour of fumed silicas.
    • Do synthetic amorphous silicas of the AEROSIL®-Type contain any genetically modified organisms (GMO‘s)?

      In the production process for synthetic amorphous silica of the AEROSIL®-type we do not use any genetically modified organisms (GMO). AEROSIL® products are no GMO, constitutionally do not include any GMO and have not been in contact with any GMO. Therefore the Regulations (EC) No 1829/2003 and No 1830/2003 are not applicable.

    • Do synthetic amorphous silicas of the AEROSIL®-type contain any allergenic impurities?

      Synthetic amorphous silica of the AEROSIL®-type are pure substances. We do not add any additives, preservatives, flavours etc. AEROSIL® products constitutionally do not include any sulphur dioxide or sulphites.

      In the production process for AEROSIL® products we do not use any raw material of animal or plant origin.  AEROSIL® products have not been in contact with and constitutionally do not include any material of animal or plant origin. In our plants we generally do not use any material of animal or plant origin. Therefore AEROSIL® products are accordingly not contaminated when they leave the Degussa plants and warehouses.

      Because of the chemical production of AEROSIL® products and the raw materials used, these products constitutionally do not contain any of the ingredients usually mentioned to be allergens according to EU directive 2003/89/EC, Appendix llla and according to the ALBA-list.

    • Do synthetic amorphous silicas of the AEROSIL®-type contain any materials of animal or plant origin?

      In the production process for synthetic amorphous silica of the AEROSIL®-type, we do not use any raw material of animal or plant origin (as mentioned in EMEA/410/01, Rev 2). AEROSIL® products have not been in contact with and constitutionally do not include any material of animal or plant origin. In our plants we generally do not use any material of animal or plant origin. Therfore AEROSIL® products are accordingly not contaminated when they leave the Degussa plants and warehouses.

    • How can dusting of AEROSIL® fumed silica be prevented when bags are emptied?

      The AEROSIL® fumed silica handling technology group can recommend equipment and methods for dust-free handling of AEROSIL® products.
