New heat resistant fumed Titania catalyst-base materials AEROSIL® fumed silica and AEROXIDE® fumed titania are known for many years as valuable raw materials for catalyst production. This newsletter informs about new fumed titania materials which are extremely stable under harsh aging condition (e. g. both specific surface area and crystal structure sustain heat treatments up to 1000°C).
Designing Porous Particles In our second Catalyst Carrier Newsletter new silica catalyst base materials are described in detail. These combine a well-defined pore size distribution with the good processability of precipitated silica during granulation or extrusion.
Introducing AEROPERL® - Granulated Fumed Silica and Metal Oxides from Evonik AEROPERL® products represent an efficient way of introducing the benefits of fumed silica or fumed metal oxides to your catalyst formulation. Evonik has added three more AEROPERL® grades to the product portfolio. These grades are based on titania-silica and silica-alumina mixed oxides and show an excellent thermal stability in combination with the handling advantages of a granulated material.
Introducing AERODISP® - Fumed Silica and Metal Oxides Dispersions from Evonik Due to the purity and well defined physical properties such as surface area and phase structure AEROSIL® Fumed Silica and AEROXIDE® Fumed Metal Oxides frequently used in catalytic applications such as in catalyst washcoats, in extrudates or as raw material for the synthesis of specialty zeolites. However, handling of fumed silica and fumed metal oxides often is challenging, due to the extreme fineness and fluffy structure of these products. To address this challenge Evonik Industries has been manufacturing dispersions based on fumed silica and silica / alumina mixed oxides since 1953. Today, we have added more products to that original set so that we now offer a wide variety of oxides, all of interest to the catalyst industries: TiO2, Al2O3, ZrO2, and several mixed oxide particles, such as SiO2 / TiO2 or SiO2 / Al2O3. The newsletter describes in detail the properties of our new dispersions and their value in catalyst carrier applications.
Measuring Particle Mechanical Strength In this newsletter we report on a technique our researchers have advanced to describe particle mechanical strength. Such measurements, for example, can provide information about relative attrition rates of catalyst carriers. The methodology is easy to employ and the results uncomplicated to Interpret.
New AEROPERL® Fumed Titania Granulates AEROPERL® Fumed Titania Granulates are wellknown in the catalyst industry as high purity raw materials. This newsletter informs about the properties of a newly developed granular type of fumed titania. In contrast to AEROPERL® P25/20 the new product VP AEROPERL® TiO2 P 25 H 6 reveals improved mechanical stability and allows therefore a wider application as catalyst carrier. New Temperature Stable Fumed Alumina for Catalyst Applications Alumina is one of the most widely used support materials in heterogeneous catalysis. In this newsletter we describe two new alumina grades co-fumed with small amounts of silica leading to a dramatic increase in thermal stability. Both, VP Alu 560 S and VP Alu 590 S, even when treated up to 1200°C for 24 h, show only little reduction in surface area, whereas AEROXIDE® AluC is sintering and looses its surface area almost completely. Temperature stable fumed alumina now available as AEROPERL® In our previous Newsletter #7 we informed about two new experimental grades of fumed alumina: VP Alu 560 S and VP Alu 590 S; both grades are characterized by their excellent thermal stability in comparison to pure fumed alumina, e.g. AEROXIDE® Alu C. This newsletter informs about the availability of these materials as granules. AEROPERL® granulated fumed alumina provides several advantages for numerous catalytic applications.
With decades of experience, Evonik Industries has extensive know-how in the production and development of fumed metal oxides such as silica, alumina and titania. In the present newsletter we introduce our silica rich silica-alumina mixed oxides and their application as base material for acid catalysts. Commercially available silica rich silica-alumina mixed oxides are AEROSIL® MOX 80 and AEROSIL® MOX 170.
