This brochure provides you with an overview about the broad package of benefits for the Adhesives and Sealants industry offered by AEROSIL® fumed silica. With a number of AEROSIL® fumed silica grades tailored for the Adhesives and Sealants industry, Evonik presents a product portfolio that helps to achieve technical advantages and improvements in a large number of systems, ranging from silicone sealants for e. g. bath rooms, through adhesives for the automotive industry, to chemical anchor systems for the construction industry. Certain grades of AEROSIL® fumed silica also function as anti-sedimentation agents, improving the storage stability and processability of adhesives and sealants, as well as their rheological and mechanical properties.
This Technical Bulletin describes the mechanism for thickening and thixotropizing solvent free epoxy resins and diverse hardening systems in comparison to hydrophilic and hydrophobic types of AEROSIL®. The advantages of AEROSIL® R 202 and R 805, i.e. sedimentation behaviour, flow behaviour and viscosity stability are portrayed graphically, and analytical methods concerning rheology are discussed.
This Technical Bulletin describes the production process for fumed and precipitated silicas. This Technical Information brochure describes the benefits of fumed silica in hot melt adhesive formulations particularly in styrene block copolymers commonly used in the industry. The brochure offers examples of formulated adhesives and the effects on properties such as adhesion-in-peel, shear time and tack. Choice and loading level of AEROSIL® fumed silica can modify these properties singly or in conjunction with each other. TI 1323 also offers the example of using AEROXIDE® TiO2 P25 to enhance the property of heat stability.
This Technical Information brochure describes the benefits of fumed silica in waterborne adhesive and sealant formulations particularly acrylic copolymers and vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) copolymers. The literature includes examples of pressure sensitive and construction adhesives, and acrylic translucent (clear) sealant. AERODISP® fumed silica dispersions and AEROSIL® fumed silica products improve properties such as cohesive strength, rheology, and specifically for sealants the property of clarity. In addition also the synergy using AEROSIL® and Dynasylan® Silanes in waterborne systems is discussed.
It is well known that AEROSIL® fumed silica can fine-tune many properties of silicone sealant compounds. It can impart the required rheological and mechanical properties in RTV–1C silicone sealant compounds. In addition to fumed silica, the use of AEROXIDE® fumed oxides and DYNASYLAN® silanes can provide unique properties in RTV–1C silicone sealant compounds. The technical details of these Evonik products developed for RTV–1 silicone sealant compounds will be discussed in this brochure.
