The Technical Information No. 1279 is a brochure that describes how to incorporate AEROSIL® fumed silica into liquid systems. Detailed information on topics such as shear speed, shear time, addition sequence and grind values help our customers to achieve optimal results. TI 1279 is ideal for, but not limited to, formulators in the coatings, resins, adhesives, and personal care industries.
Technical experts at Evonik have developed a new generation of structure-modified fumed silica that significantly improve the scratch resistance of UV-curing, high-solid as well as conventional solvent based two component systems. Following the development of AEROSIL® R 7200 and AEROSIL® R 8200, AEROSIL® R 9200 represents a further contribution to an innovative new product portfolio of structure-modified hydrophobic silica.
The global market for powder coatings is expected to grow at rates higher than liquid coatings due to the ongoing shift towards eco-friendly coating systems. Evonik has investigated the performance of innovative, newly developed fumed oxides in comparison to the established range of AEROSIL® fumed silica and AEROXIDE® fumed oxides, which have been used in powder coatings since many years. The brochure details the main application fields for VP ITO. It is mostly used to manufacture transparent, anti-static and electrically conductive coatings for every type of display, e.g. LCD, Flat Panel or TFT. Besides conductivity, VP ITO impresses with an additional property: IR absorptivity. As a heat-absorbing coating, which can be applied to panes in automobiles and buildings, it is very effective in keeping heat where it belongs in hot or sunny weather: outside the building or the automobile. SIPERNAT® Specialty Silica and AEROSIL® Fumed Silica are referred to as a “carrier” when they are used to hold and absorb liquids in the production of a dry, free-flowing powder. Any size silica product can be used as a carrier; making either coarse or fine absorbates.
TI 1371 describes the improvements, formulators can achieve by using AERODISP® technology in waterborne coatings formulations. These benefits include, improved anti-settling in systems containing matting agents, pigments or other fillers, improved film formation, anti-sag, anti-cracking in heavily filled systems, and improved dirt pick-up resistance. The results of a scientific study conducted in cooperation with the University of Minnesota are also covered, describing the improvements in film formation in acrylic resins provided by AERODISP® W 7520.
Hydrophobic silica products are well known as efficient booster for defoamer formulations which are used in a variety of industries and applications. This Technical Brochure describes how AEROSIL® fumed silica and SIPERNAT® specialty silica products from Evonik effectively enhance the performance of polyether-siloxane based defoamer formulations in three different latex binder systems commonly used in waterborne paints and coatings.
