This Industry Brochure highlights the many uses of AEROSIL® fumed silica and SIPERNAT® / SIDENT® specialty silica in Personal Care applications. These include skin and oral care products (gels, emulsions, toothpaste); antiperspirants (sticks, roll-ons & sprays); hair care products (bleaching agents and dyes) and last but not least color cosmetics (powders, make-up, lipstick etc.). We recommend AEROSIL® and SIPERNAT® as multifunctional cosmetic ingredients that enable new and innovative product concepts. Application and product charts summarize the properties that can be achieved with our products and recommend the appropriate types to use.
Over the past fifty years, synthetic amorphous silica created by Evonik have been extensively used in the cosmetics and personal care industries. Evonik manufactures silica approved for personal care under two brand names – AEROSIL® and SIPERNAT®.

Silica has been a key ingredient in toothpaste for many decades. Two diff erent types of silica have elementary functions in dentifrice. One of these functions is the mechanical cleaning of the teeth. Cleaning silica einforces the polishing eff ect of the toothbrush and enables eff ective plaque emoval. The second type of silica in toothpaste is responsible for rheology control. SIDENT® 22 S and AEROSIL® 200 Pharma are essential toothpaste additives for this thickening function.
