AEROSIL® fumed silica for unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins

Many applications for unsaturated polyester resins and vinyl ester resins need to have a certain viscosity level and thixotropic behavior. The pure resins do not show a thixotropic behavior on their own and usually are on a low viscosity level. Therefore thickening agents and thixotropes have to be used. The most important and customary used thickening agent and thixotrope is fumed silica. AEROSIL® fumed silica is added to UP and VE resins for viscosity control and to achieve the desired thixotrope effect. Furthermore AEROSIL® fumed silica works as an anti-settling agent and can be used in transparent applications.
