The turnout at this year's American Coatings Show (ACS) in Charlotte was 20% higher than in 2008 with 328 exhibitors and about 6,700 overall participants.
Over the three day fair and conference Evonik presented itself in the new look with the Smart Formulating for Coatings concept – covering products and technical solutions from all the units under the Evonik banner. Inorganic Materials chose to use the many available venues at ACS to highlight our products: technical papers, poster sessions and product presentations.
One of the many highlights for our business unit was regarding the use of INXEL™ Pigment Preparations to develop reduced VOC Wood Stains.
Product presentations on the show floor were also held to demonstrate further our tool-box of innovations: Colour Black FW 171 for Water-Borne and Powder Coatings and the use of AERODISP® Fumed Silica Dispersions to Enhance Waterborne Coatings were presented and highlighted.
The technical paper “Use of Novel Matting Agent in UV Cure Coatings” was introduced in a presentation. Here the new EXP 3600 matting agent was highlighted: most UV coatings formulators remain challenged to produce a highly transparent coating while not building too high a viscosity. EXP 3600 was specifically designed for this application area.
Quite a few meetings with customers and distributors took place over the three-day period: BU IM hosted the Distributor Breakfast where approximately 60 people from the IM distribution network learned first hand about our new innovations. This venue also afforded IM the opportunity to present a newer view of the NAFTA coatings market and our strategy for growth in the future. The evening was capped off by a customer and distributor cocktail party held at the Carolina Panther football stadium.
